What is the Worship Committee About?
The Worship Committee performs the responsibilities associated with preparing the sanctuary and
music (both choir and handbell choir) for the worship services and special services, preparing
communion, assigning volunteers, filling the pulpit during the pastor’s absence, ordering supplies,
preparing the children’s worship materials, preparing the elements for baptismal services, hosting and
assigning committees to host the monthly meet and greet (cookies and lemonade), attending monthly
Worship Committee meetings and preparing meeting minutes and annual reports.
Activity Details include:
- Set up the sanctuary for services
- Change paraments to coincide with the proper liturgical Sunday
- Assign volunteers (Ushers, Lectors, Communion Servers, Bell Ringer, etc.)
- Make the communion wafers and set up the communion table
- Coordinate flower delivery
- Ensure supplies needed were available (oil, sign-in booklets, bibles, pencils, etc.)
- Prepare the children’s books
- Set up the sanctuary for special services
- Funerals
- Lent – Easter Services
- Ash Wednesday
- Add crosses to the yard and covered with appropriate liturgical cloth
- Ensure disposition of ashes
- Palm Sunday
- Hold a children’s palm parade
- Maundy Thursday
- Hold a special service in the Fellowship Hall followed by prayer in the outdoor prayer garden
- Good Friday
- Easter Sunday
- Ash Wednesday
- Advent – Christmas Services
- Coordinate Christmas decorating and take-down
- Music - coordinate a hymn sing Sunday
- Hold a Christmas Eve candlelight service
- Music Program for services and special services
- Lead an active choir and handbell choir
- Integrate the children into music activities
- Enrich the services with the pianists (both primary and fill-in pianists)
- Host and assign hosts for our monthly Meet and Greet (cookies and lemonade)
